This project was inspired by my frustration, as a narrator, with Amazon/Audible dominance over the e-book and audiobook publishing industry.
I speak for the narrator community when I say that many of us narrators have issues with Amazon/Audible similar to those that authors have - namely the low payout from book sales and lack of transparency with regard to actual revenues and customer information. The low payouts make it very difficult for authors to justify paying for human narration of their audiobooks unless they’re confident they have a best seller. Whatever can be done to increase author revenues helps both the author and narrator.
Authors spend much time and money promoting their own websites, only to send traffic to Amazon/Audible and receive a small fraction of the book's revenues. Certainly Amazon/Audible represents a marketing behemoth, and authors are advised not to suddenly switch their promotional efforts entirely to direct sales. However, authors should always be trying to steer their readers to their own web sites and email lists in order to better take advantage of new marketing and promotion tools to sell directly to their fans..
